Structures

Recently we have been looking at structures and the different types of materials used. Over the past week we looked a range of different houses from around the world.
Firstly we took note of the belongings each family had outside of their homes and then looked at the houses. In our collaborative groups we were given a picture of a house and then worked together to fill in the PMI (plus, minus, interesting) chart.
We learnt a lot about why certain materials were used in certain areas of the world and compared some of those houses to what we have in NZ.

Once we finished working in our collaborative groups, we joined up with another group to share our findings and teach the other group about what we had learnt.

It was so awesome to see everyone participating, sharing their knowledge of their picture and taking turns!

A letter from the Three Little Pigs

Today we received a mysterious letter in the mail! But when we opened it we discovered that there was no writing on it! After some clever thinking, we came to the conclusion that it was a secret message written in invisible ink.

We did lots of testing - used a blue light, a torch, water, Lola's glasses and used different coloured pens to try and figure out what the letter said. After many failed attempts we went to trusty old Google to find out what we needed to do. It said to try and use an iron, luckily Miss Laing had a iron in her school bag!

We ironed over the letter to find that it was a letter from the Three Little Pigs asking if we could help them because the Big Bad Wolf had blown their houses down!

Then we wondered... How did the pigs write the letter? We experimented and thought that they could have used lemon juice. We had a go ourselves!

Three Little Pigs

Recently we have been looking at the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have done lots of reading, listening and watching of both the original story and the story told by the wolf.
Here is the link to the original story:  The Three Little Pigs
Here is the link to the Wolf's story:  The TRUE story of the Three Little Pigs

We wrote stories about who we believed and why, how we felt about the wolf and what we had been doing in class.

In our collaborative groups we made venn diagrams to compare the two stories.

Last Thursday we did art and made the Three Little Pigs houses. Come in and check them out!
